Autumn grape care: top dressing for strong wintering and fruiting
How to properly prepare grapes for winter: top dressing and care
Autumn preparation of grapes is an important step in care, ensuring successful wintering and fruiting next year. By the end of the growing season, grapes lose their vitality and need support. One of the best ways to help the plant is to apply fertilization, which will help restore the balance of the necessary elements and ensure a good start in the new season.
Natural top dressing: infusion of chicken manure
Until mid-October, it is worth feeding the grapes with natural fertilizers, such as chicken manure infusion. This is one of the ancient methods that provides the soil with the necessary nutrients. To prepare it, mix chicken manure with water in a ratio of 1:4 and leave to infuse for 4 days in a warm place. After this concentrate is ready, dilute it with another 10 parts of water. One bush will need 0.5 liters of ready-made infusion. If you use droppings in their pure form, then you should count on 1 kilogram per square meter of area.
Mineral top dressing for autumn care
The end of October and November are a great time to apply mineral fertilizers with phosphorus and potassium. These elements help to strengthen the root system and increase the resistance of plants to low temperatures. Use a universal solution consisting of 20 g of superphosphate, 10 g of potassium salt and 25 g of potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water. This amount is enough for one grape bush.
The correct feeding technique
To better absorb top dressing, pour it into grooves 30 cm deep, which should be dug around the perimeter of the bush. This will help the fertilizer penetrate directly to the roots. To protect the soil from fertilizer leaching, mulch the trunk circle. Such care will provide the plant with maximum benefit and help it survive the winter with the least losses.
Remember that proper grape care is sure to bear fruit in the form of a rich harvest. So do not postpone this important work until later, because your work will certainly pay off!
